When Grant and I first met, neither of us were looking to get into a relationship.  I was in the beginning of my 3rd year in vet school at Auburn and Grant had just finished his championship season with the Greensborough Grasshoppers professional minor league baseball team in the Miami Marlins organization.  We both had our eyes set on our future careers.

It was a Friday night (November 4, 2011), Grant was back in Auburn for his last semester to finish up his engineering degree.  Our vet school class had a big exam coming up that Monday. Never did I go out without at least one of my girlfriends tagging along with me and all of my girls (as I usually was) wanted to stay in to focus on studying for the exam.  Uncharacteristic of myself, I decided that I had to go downtown to have a break from my nerdy life. Little did I know, while walking to 17-16 (a popular bar in Auburn), my future husband was just a few strides behind me.  He introduced himself to me inside and like a true gentleman ordered me another vodka/tonic, which happened to be his drink of choice as well.  We had such an easy conversation and, before I knew it, the hours quickly flew by. The next day he invited me to watch the LSU/Alabama football game with him and some of his friends.  Once again, I stayed out later than I was planning but he was completely worth it.  After that, we both tried to focus on our own busy lives but kept in contact. Before leaving for Christmas break, Grant invited me on a cupcake date since I had told him how amazing GiGi’s maple and bacon cupcakes were.  I think he agreed even though he later admitted that sweets are not his thing.  The immediate night I was back in Auburn from Christmas break, I invited Grant over with a group a friends to hang out and since that moment on we haven’t left each other’s side.  I truly believe our meeting was fate.

Grant popped the question on January 25, 2014 in our new home in Winter Haven, Florida. It was perfectly romantic and a complete surprise for me.  We had the family over to our home later that evening to spread the good news.

Grant is the most genuine, affectionate, non-judgmental, dedicated, and hard-working man. He is truly my soul mate. I am so blessed to share the rest of my life with him and both of us thank God every day for being a part of our meeting and our lives.
